Hi. I am currently flummoxed with my puddle. I had issues with dark-brown stains, attempted many different brands of "metal out", i.due east., EZ Chlor Metal Magnet, EZ Chlor Stain Stop, etc. Finally, I found this site and tried the citric acid method of removing the stains. SUCCESS! However, it seems that success is not so like shooting fish in a barrel..... It took a while (overnite) to come across the stains were gone, even so, in the aforementioned time span, the pool went totally cloudy (can't even encounter the bottom in the three' end). I continued filtering (36 sq ft DE filter), two times a day inverse the DE, had my little robot in in that location vacuuming abroad (all day for a week at present), take
gone thru many 25# numberless of DE, even so cloudy. Currently I have non added tons of chlorine, every bit I noted that if yous raise the chlorine as well fast it volition drop the iron stains back on the liner. I accept added sequesterant to pull the metal out of the water, but it is just getting cloudier. The other odd thing is the alkalinity is off the charts 240 or college (using strips so don't believe I take a specfic number). The PH has stayed at 6.8 or so, and I tried PH Minus to lower the alkaline level all week, the alkalilnity is still at 240 or higher. I just put in another
sequesterant, thinking that the concluding brand I put in may have not been strong enough. However, it seems very odd to me that I am so loftier on the alkalinity when I put acid in the pool! Every pool store I've been in can't effigy this out! Neither tin can I! I am going to take a sample in to have information technology tested to see if I can figure out what the problem is: I'thou beginning to wonder if information technology's something stupid like DE in the puddle, possibly my filter has a hole in it or something after adding the citric acid. Whatever thoughts on this MESS? Thanks in advance for even reading this! YIKES! :)

The white stuff in your puddle is insoluble calcium citrate. It is formed when citric acid comes in contact with calcium. It can form very tenacious scale and is bad about plugging pocket-sized openings in piping systems, filters, and instrumentation. You lot might be able to filter information technology out over time, but every bit long as you have both citric acid and calcium in the water more precipitates will form. Your all-time bet might be to empty the pool, clean information technology out, and start over.

shelmarae, welcome to TFP!

Please mail service a complete set of water exam results. In that location are many possibilities for what might be going on. Without more than information information technology is difficult to fifty-fifty guess at what might be happening.

Also, stop lowering the PH. You lot exercise not want the PH to go below 6.8 at any betoken. If you have continued to add acid when the PH was already 6.8, information technology has probably driven the PH too low. I recommend aerating the h2o to enhance the PH, only be certain to keep an heart on the PH and don't permit information technology get up as well speedily. That is going to exist catchy, considering the common PH test will study any PH below half dozen.8 as vi.8, and then it will be catchy to know but how speedily the PH is coming upward.

Every bit J20832 said, cloudiness later on a citric acid treatment is completely normal, and should clear up in two or 3 days. There could be complications because of your high TA level, which might delay that a little, only we need the full set of water test results to diagnose that.

Wow! You guys are nifty! I really appreciate the responses! I accept been filtering like a fool (hee hee), and yeah, the pump starts at nigh 10, I don't dump it til information technology hits 20. This morning I went out and I can actually meet the bottom of the iii' stop.
I have been using the strips for testing, and subsequently reading this, and dealing with this, I am going to get a real test kit. This is my second year taking care of this puddle, and I oasis't had whatsoever problems until now....
I will get a kit and go along to digest all this wisdom to a higher place, Thank you then much and I'll be dorsum! :)

Mostly we recommend cleaning the filter when the pressure goes up twenty-25% of the make clean pressure. This maintains better menstruum and filtering ... Although it also means doing information technology more ofttimes when clearing a dirty pool.

Hi!

Just need to say thanks for all the assist, wanted to update progress.
The pool is getting clearer, I have been aerating all twenty-four hours, brought up my
PH already. To relieve time I ran over to WM and got a HTH (I know :( ) test
kit, and here are the numbers I got....

TC .v (have been bringing it upwardly slowly)
BR 1.0
PH seven.2
CYA 30 (? this kit said the h2o would be cloudy, it'southward articulate as a bong)
AK 130
Hardness doesn't register.... I call up I removed all the calcium with that
citric acid handling.....
(the kit says the water
would be red if there is
hardness present, it's purple.
No explanation for that....)

I'm still reading and filtering....things are looking meliorate.....

Thank you again for all your input, very much appreciated...
