My problem had a strange set of variables. The CD would eventually play but I had to choose the next track or the next and sometimes have to change a different play mode. It would somewhen play but moving to the next rail was non a given.
I had unlugged the unit of measurement, changed the battery and cleaned the lense previously only did information technology again. This time I took the advice of moving the light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation railroad vehicle all the mode out then all the way dorsum in. It sounded a chip similar gears stripping and I was kick myself for not opening it up to run into if I might harm something. It worked despite the cringing noise! And then far, so skilful!

Well that tip almost the blob of solder just might exercise the trick!
I was very puzzled by it when I saw it on the original, and could non sympathize what it was there for and when I tried the new unit of measurement in the Bose information technology didn't work at all. I'll get back and try once again.
Big Cheers for that tip!! Thanks.

Thank you So MUCH! My maybe 16 yr old Bose Wave AM/FM CD role player would play some tracks but fewer and fewer. . . it would just sit in that location, peculiarly on track 1. The Q-tip and alcohol worked like a charm. I besides manually moved the lens carriage dorsum and along over its entire travel twice. What the heck, it was broken anyway. Now it works perfectly. Thank you all for your comments

I take a Bose Wave CD/Radio circa 2005
For the last couple of years, the CD player has been 'stuttering' when it commences playing. If I leave information technology alone, information technology corrects itself and plays fine.
Assuming the lens thing was dusty, I bought 1 of these cleaning CD's with a tiny brush glued to the playing surface and that worked after 1 or two plays. And then, the ane or 2 became 3 or iv, and then vii or eight etc, simply always adjacent 24-hour interval...the same problem!
I got bored with the cleaner and encouraged by others' brave efforts at accessing the lens & cleaning manually with booze, I plucked up the courage to become at the insides. I had no thought what I was looking for, got scared, and put it back in the instance.....Simply....then had an thought......If I couldn't locate the lens for cleaning....maybe I could evangelize the alcohol to the lens VIA THE Piffling Castor ON THE CLEANING CD! I did this using fine small water colour sable brush dipped in vodka, and the first play was disappointingly the same as before....stuttering again. Give up. So a miracle! I tried it Next DAY: PERFECT! Again & again! Three days later is even so perfect. I can but guess that the first trial after the vodka treatment failed because the alcohol on the lens affair was still wet which confused the signal. When the spirit evaporated the lens had been washed and is now A OK
Worth a endeavor?

Thank you for all the tips and tricks! Also the alcohol I had to push the reader all the manner to the correct like one of the commenters. I had to do this twice. Too the top that presses the cd down seemed to be jammed and off center. It was frightening to unjam information technology but what is there to lose? They don't even service this anymore! Yea united states of america!

Swabbing with a Q-tip soaked in alcohol didn't seem to exercise it, but manhandling the little laser unit made it work--one time, then it failed when I removed the CD and tried information technology once again. Yet, emboldened by the success, I pushed the light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation unit back over the correct again, jiggled the various parts, and it'south working over again--yay! Thanks, anybody, for the encouragement and suggestions.

I had the same effect. Every CD I put in came back every bit unplayable. The CD wouldn't fifty-fifty spin. NONE of these answers helped. Out of frustration and as a last ditch attempt - I unplugged the arrangement and with my fingernail slid the laser affair all the way to the right. Note*-It made a slight ratchet sound as I slid it over. Plugged the organization dorsum in and it works groovy! As I said, I tried cleaning the laser, canned air, rebooting, etc before I did this. The unit was new and only a year old, purchased in March 2022.

I merely replaced the laser on my Bose Wave Radio model AWRC-1A. I did remove the hulk of solder that protects the light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation during shipping. Will I demand to adjust the intensity of the laser via the "trim pot"?
If and so, how much should I look to turn information technology?
I reassembled the unit, but the CD is still not working.
I have already tried ii adjustments of about 45 degrees each (CW turns) with no success nonetheless. I don't desire to over-do it; how far should I need to plough the adjustment pot?
Thanks,

When you order a new LENS and install the lens (Which isn't as like shooting fish in a barrel as I idea) you lot Practise have to remove the SOLDER bridge. Make sure you have a soldering iron and solder wick or solder extractor because yous volition need it. Compare the one-time and the new and you'll run across where the "Glob" is at. Nether the glob are ii surface mount solder points.

My much loved and used CD player wave radio of 10 years was giving me the "no disc" error. This had progressed from intermittently not beingness able to read certain CDs, to now not reading anything at all. Excellent!
While working on a AWRC1P Bose Wave Radio / CD unit I ordered a replacement head and changed out some swelling caps.
Discrepancy: CD non working
Fault: dISC was on brandish with flashing "CD"
Solution: remove and supersede defective caput
Horror: That didn't gear up it.
Rejoicing: Afterward closely reading what is here I examined the old CD laser pickup and noticed in that location was no hulk of solder. The NEW head had solder on information technology as these helpful gentlemen pointed out to a higher place. Afterwards removing the hulk I placed a CD in and was rewarded with the expected sound coming from the repaired unit of measurement.
Thank you very much for your assistance and bless you all for the insight!

THANKS SO MUCH SUSIE! I have been struggling with my Bose (AWRC-1G) for a real long time - the cd spinning and only playing intermittently. The Cd player takes the discs from the casette but cannot read them, eventually the disc no flashes and "DISC" is displayed.I gauge it is a laser problem. Is this light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation the same type equally higher up and can I get them in the Great britain?

Hi Bob. Deplorable for the slow respond, I haven't checked this forum for a while.
The caput must bladder every bit it magnetically 'suspended' and must motion up,downwards and side to side. It'south in a feedback loop and aims for max signal from the CD. Every bit for lubrication, none volition be needed. There is a tiny corporeality of grease on the pick up rails; I've never added to information technology.
To exist honest, the CD pickups are difficult to get in the UK (are you lot in the UK?) I've never bought a complete deck, never constitute one to buy(!) but I wouldn't exist worried about swapping the pickup; if you lot are within you are well on your way. After the CD ribbon and plug are disconnected at the deck finish, undo the single screw on the silver rails and slide the rail out, you can then get the pickup out. You need to swap over the plastic geared 'rack' every bit the pickups come without it. It's just two tiny screws. Getting the right pickup is the most difficult affair (send the supplier a photo of the one you lot have). There are at least 3 with very similar numbers and even the suppliers tin can't agree on what they are called! Search the net; I've bought from Germany, Ireland and from Dalbani in the UK. The ones from Germany happened to be the best quality existence original Sanyo. Once again, don't forget to desolder the A/South 'blob' on the new pick upwardly. There are 3 'blobs' simply use your quondam pickup to determine which to desolder. Expert luck! Electronic mail me at steve@odonn21.fsnet.co.u.k. if yous wish.

Thanks for that Steve. I have worked out how to take the unit of measurement to bits OK and cleaned the lens and it seems improve.-- maybe good plenty for the fourth dimension being simply not perfect. I notice that the head appears to "bladder" in the carrier s this correct?? , I also retrieve the bulldoze that tracks the head may be sticky is it possible to become the whole mechanism motor and all?? I am a flake loath to put lubricant on a mechanism that must be kept clean.

I've repaired about 10 type Bose AWRC3x (the radio/cd model with lift up lid and meridian controls). If the cd won't play or skips, endeavor cleaning the lens VERY carefully with a cotton bud with some isopropyl alcohol. Let it dry out then try again. This will assistance in well-nigh 1/3 of cases.
After that, a new light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation unit is needed. They cost around 15 pounds, thirty dollars, (Type SFP100s with 13 pin connector made by Sanyo). You need to have some electronics feel to take the case to $.25 to get the light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation deck out, modify the cd laser and reassemble. Basically, DISCONNECT THE Power! Remove the 3 screws on elevation, plough over and advisedly prise the front of the base abroad from the top cover with a table knife or similar. Elevator off the meridian encompass - be careful with the lid ribbon! The deck tin can be disconnected from its ribbon cable and wired connector very carefully. Have the deck to bits and fit the new laser caput (take photos if you think it volition assist). Remember to unsolder the shorting 'blob' of solder which protects the new laser from static till its fitted.
On the bright side, there is no tracking etc to set up, that's all automatic then ordinarily they piece of work like new with a new laser fitted. I have to say this is the weakest feature on the Bose CD radio, the actual electronics rarely gives trouble.
Hope this helps Steve O'Donnell
